Letter to the Church #2

Here is another letter we sent out to our church in light of what we saw take place in our nation’s Capitol.

Dear Church Family,

We wanted to send out a brief note to everyone as we aim to help you engage our culture with a biblical worldview. On Wednesday, January 6th, the world saw images of a protest turned riot in our nation’s Capitol. While we acknowledge the right to peaceful protest in this country, we also realize that some participants were bent on rebellion. We condemn the rioting and unrest that took place. Breaking into the Capitol building directly violates the law, and we do not support it. As we did this summer, when protests turn to riots and our pastors denounced such actions, we come to you again doing the same. We will continue to call out sin, especially when it headlines our national news.

However, when seeking to engage culture with a biblical framework, there is more to look at than just what is sin. We need to wrestle with the reality of living in a broken world that desperately needs a savior. The world needs a savior that restores dignity to all creation and provides values that honor our true King, God. Our Messiah, Christ, is the one who provides hope in these troubling times. We have redemption and the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ as God rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of light (Col.1:12-14).

If you believe this to be true, we want to encourage you that the Lord is still in control. He claims victory over sin and death. He is not taken by surprise by the wicked and foolish things we see in our world.

Lamentations 3:37-38

Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it? 38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both calamities and good things come?

So, if you are trying to figure out what to do or wrestle with finding hope, let us remind you that our mission hasn’t changed. Remember what Paul says in Philippians 2:13-16

“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky  as you hold firmly to the word of life.”

Church, we are praying that you hold firm to the truth that God is working to fulfill His good purpose in you. No matter what the days ahead may look like, God is with us, and because of this truth, you can share His message of hope with others. Remember, we only shine when in darkness. Now is the opportune time to draw close to God and one another.

May God keep you and Bless you,

I'd love to read your thoughts
