I am not going to lie the recent tragedies that have taken place are a bit overwhelming. People seemed to be murdered every day. However this isn’t new. The glimpse of the world that your news channel brings you is probably filled with stories that feature someone dying in some horrific manner.
What blows my mind is when people will fill up their Social Media post with any and everything BUT are unwilling to speak out on the tough issues.
PEOPLE ARE BEING MURDERED!
You won’t repost that. You won’t state you are praying for this community. You won’t speak out against the attacker. The words used by most people are “unthinkable and so sad”
REALLY? This isn’t a rare occurrence. You really aren’t saying you can’t see how an individual thought up this attack? You aren’t going to be naive and say you could not think someone was capable of such hate? These things are so far from our world that another persons life really doesn’t weigh as much as we say it does.
What I mean by this is we have the “assumed right” to speak out against the government or anyone else who we disagree with even when we know we couldn’t do their job. Yet in the next instance we remain silent when others are hurting. We are comfortable kicking up dust but we are at a lost for words when we need to speak up the most. When comfort needs to be given.
The response I get from this is “me saying I am praying for this community won’t help them” BUT you saying that our President is an idiot or that if your party doesn’t get elected you are leaving the country, helps how?
I digress…
The point I am trying to make is when are we going to speak up for what is right and speak out against what is wrong no matter the cost, no matter the victim, no matter the attacker.
It shouldn’t matter about the color or culture. We should care because they are human and made in the image of God. Imagine that was your church? or family?
This past weekend we encountered a family whose daughter was almost kidnapped. As we drove home we didn’t think well they are white so oh well. Nor did we say that’s crazy but what’s for dinner. We prayed for them, for us and said we couldn’t even imagine what that is like (I also spent time talking with the father before hand).
It didn’t matter who they were but the fact they as people had one of the greatest scares parents could have concerning their children. We get that as parents, as people.
I pray that for once we can just admit that while we may not have “all” the facts we know people are hurting and regardless of your personal hangups their lives have been forever changed.
You can go back to watching your cat videos and posting on pintrest boards now.
I thanks God for the prophetic voice!!!👍🏿
